RIP - Kitty "Sarge" the Cat

Earth day 2009 while Mommy and Max were watching the Disney Earth movie Daddy was taking our cat Sarge to the vet because he had stopped all eating and drinking.  We had warned Max the the vet might not be able to heal him and that he should give him a big hug and tell him bye. When we got home Max could tell by the look on Daddy's face that something was wrong.  The first thing he asked was did Sarge die to which Daddy responded yes.  Max immediately broke down into tears.  Daddy took him outside and showed him where he buried him.  Max had a hard time that night but seemed ok going to school the next day and even brought up funny things about Sarge on the way.  However, by the time he had walked into the building and made it to class his teacher said he was in tears again and could hardly hang up his backpack.  She let him go talk to the school counselor who talked with him about Sarge and had him draw a picture and tell a story about Sarge.  He came back to class feeling much better.

Ironically it  took this tragedy to alert us to Max's progression in the emotion department.  For years he has had a hard time reading emotions on people's faces.  He would always have to ask me "What face are you?" - meaning are you mad, sad, happy, etc... and then given the answer to that question he would not always have an appropriate response.  However in this instance he was able to recognize the sadness on Daddy's face and then respond appropriately to the news of the death.  So thank you Sarge for giving us one last gift - the realization that Max is normalizing.

Rest in Peace Sarge - Adult in 1996 when we rescued you - 2009

Awana Pie Night

As a reward for finishing their books in Awana each child received a whip cream pie they could put in the face of any leader.  Since Max actually finished two books he earned two pies. When we first told him about the pies he wasn't really that excited to make anyone messy - why would you put a pie in someone's face.  But once he learned he could put the pie in his Daddy's face he was all game.  So both pies ended up in Daddy's face.

Spring Game

We traveled to Stillwater for the OSU Spring Game. Max's favorite part of these trips is swimming in the hotel pool. Here is his new swimsuit.
We had plans to eat at Eskimo Joes but the line was way too long. Instead we headed over to Joseppi's (Joe's Italian Style). Max had a great time drilling Mommy and Daddy with Trivial Pursuit questions.

The Easter Basket

Once we got back from brunch we gave Max his Easter basket.  All Star Wars themed of course.

The Easter Suit

We went home after sunrise service to change into our Easter clothes, headed back to church, then on  to Blue Mesa for brunch.  Here is Max modeling his new Easter suit.

Sunrise Service

Our church offers a sunrise service for Easter.  The kiddos are encouraged to come in their pajamas and the service is followed by an Easter egg hunt.  This year's service involved walking to various stations and Max loved participating.

Laser Tag

Max had another little friend with a birthday party the same weekend.  This time the birthday included laser tag.  This was Max's first time playing laser tag and he was very excited.  After about ten minutes of carrying around that heavy gear he was done.  He did grasp the concept and would fire his gun at people but the equipment was extremely heavy for such a little guy. Of course Daddy had to jump in on the fun as well.

Going Bonkers

Max's little friend had his birthday party at a place in Lewisville called Going Bonkers.  This place is like a McDonald's playground on steroids.  Max was in playground heaven.

HOA Easter Activities

Our HOA had an Easter event that included the Easter Bunny, breakfast, crafts, and a trick or treat style egg hunt.
