Today was Max's first Parent Teacher Conference. Of course being a special needs student he has sat through and we have attended numerous
ARD meetings - next one on Thurs. But today was our first official normal student Parent Teacher Conference. He stayed at a friend's house across from school while Mommy and Daddy got the scoop. Of course he was praised for being a rule follower and keeping the class on schedule - often pointing out if something has been missed in the daily routine. The best news that we received is how much he is blossoming socially amongst his peers. His teacher shared he jumps right in to play/discussions with others and will play with children from other classes at recess. Blessing beyond words for a little guy two years ago that would only say nouns.
Every
kindergartner undergoes a battery of tests for reading assessment. Now we know Max can read, he has been reading things for a long time much to our dismay. For instance the times I have said there is no ice cream here and to have him point to a sign then why does that cart say ice cream or the numerous rule posters we have had to stop and read before entering a bounce house,
McDonald's playground, swimming pool, etc... Anyway back to the test. There were four components and this is how his score broke down Letter ID 52/52, Letter Sounds 52/52, C.A.P. 14/14, and Phonemic Awareness 26/30. Not sure exactly what that means but those scores look very impressive. Way to go Kindergarten Stud!
His teacher shared this funny story: Max had a pen mark on his chin and a little girl who sits next to him was trying to be helpful and was taking the eraser at the end of her pencil and trying to erase it. Max marched up to his teacher with his arms folded and his eye brows furrowed and said she is trying to erase my chin! If you know Max at all you know this had to be hilarious because I am 99% sure his little brain thought that her intentions were to actually erase his chin from
existence like you would a cartoon.
Max loves to rock out and you have to give props to his fashion sense - he has got the Rock Star style down.
Tonight was Bible character dress up night for Awana. Max and two friends went as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Rack, Shack, and Benny for all you Veggietale fans.) That was always one of his favorite stories from his toddler bible, we would have to read it every night. Thanks Ms. Tasha for making the costumes. The boys ended up winning best costume and won extra Awana bucks to spend in the store. 
Also, tonight everyone joined in the pumpkin prayer carving. 
This week Max was the Star Student of the Week in his Kindergarten class. He had a bulletin board dedicated to him all week and on each day of the week he got to bring in something for show and tell. Monday was the pics for the bulletin board, Tuesday was a toy - he chose a skeleton model, Wednesday was a stuffed animal - he chose Max Moch the Tiger Snake Webkinz, Thursday was a book - he chose Oh the Places You Will Go, and Friday was anything - he chose his block stick. Friday is always assembly day at school and the star students get to sit up front on the red carpet and get to go on stage to dance to the motion song of the week. This week's song was Walk the Lonesome Trail. I was hoping for the cha cha slide since he is really good at that one but this one they have only done one other time. He did pretty good especially his Texas Lone Star.
Tonight was our annual neighborhood Fall Festival. This year was better than years past and Max had a great time going around to all the booths playing games and collecting stuff. 
Not to be outdone by last weeks performance at Sparks, Max decided to go ahead and earn three more jewels. Now he only has one more to earn before he finishes his book. 
Max had his first Kindergarten field trip today. They headed to a pumpkin patch called pumpkins on the prairie. It was very well organized and impressively educational. They had a social studies area, math area, science area, storytime, hayride, hay maze, craft area, and of course all the pumpkins. Max had a blast. 
Game three did not go very well for Max. Daddy had been out of town all week and all Max wanted to do all game was hang on Daddy. At one point during his time to be in the game he walked off the field and sat down.
